Weekday mornings in my house are a speeding flash of little feet, backpacks, spelling lists, and hairbrushes. Add to that the crunchiest element of my parenting style (food) and getting kids ready for school often feels like a feat of strength and endurance. Sound familiar?
If it does, that means you don't have a lot of time to read a lengthy blog, so I'll get right down to it - I "cheat" mornings by making smoothies. It's not exactly a cheat, but the kids think they're getting dessert for breakfast and I'm filling them with nutrients while simultaneously making my own healthy breakfast. It's so simple it's got to be cheating, right?
Here goes with one of my favorites that makes enough for my two daughters and me:
10 oz- Simpy Apple juice (water works as well)
2 cups (ish)- Wyman's Tropical Blend frozen fruit
(optional) 1 scoop protein powder (I like Vega natural or vanilla with this recipe)
**Blend for 2 minutes with a good quality blender (I use a Ninja Ultima Plus)
For the kids, I just pour it straight into cups and top with a colorful straw. EASY!
For myself, I pour into a bowl and decorate:
handful of blueberries
handful of granola
sprinkle of hemp seed
drizzle of honey
Try it out and let me know how you like it! Bon Appetite!
